Why 800 Matters:

A Letter from The Brownsville Times

To our neighbors in Brownsville, Halsey, Tangent, Shedd, Harrisburg, Crawfordsville, and throughout Central Linn County,

Since 1889, The Brownsville Times has been more than just ink and paper. It has been the record of our lives — the graduations, the city council debates, the local weddings, and the stories that no one else covers.

As a nonprofit, independent newspaper, we don’t answer to a corporate board in another state. We answer to you. But to keep our printing presses running and our reporters on the beat, we need a sustainable foundation.

Our goal is 800 print subscribers.

Why 800? This isn’t just a random number. Reaching 800 subscribers ensures that we can cover our printing costs, pay our local editor fairly, and remain a permanent fixture in this community for the next generation.

Local news is a vanishing resource in many small towns, but it doesn’t have to be that way here. When you subscribe, you aren’t just buying a newspaper; you are investing in the transparency of our local government and the heartbeat of our community.

How you can help today:

  1. Subscribe: If you enjoy reading our posts here, consider taking the leap to a print or digital subscription.
  2. Pay It Forward: We have a program where you can purchase a subscription for a neighbor or a local senior who might not be able to afford one.
  3. Share Our Story: If you value what we do, tell a friend. Word of mouth is our strongest tool.

We are so proud to tell the story of Central Linn County. Let’s make sure that story continues.

With gratitude, The Team at The Brownsville Times

With a jolt of grassroots energy and a shockingly strong dose of community spirit, The Brownsville Times is alive once more! Thanks to the lifeblood of the Central Linn County community — our readers, writers, advertisers, and donors — we’ve been resuscitated with heart and humor. Like in the illustration above, it was the “Brownsville Community” who wielded the paddles and yelled “Clear!” — and now here we are, grinning on the gurney, full of stories and stronger than ever. Thank you for believing in our revival — we promise to keep the pulse of our towns beating proudly.
