No prior journalism experience is required — just commitment, curiosity, and a strong sense of accuracy and fairness. If you have a passion for storytelling and care about what happens in our neighborhoods, we’ll give you the tools and training you need to succeed.
Volunteers receive guidance and support from our editorial team, opportunities to build skills in reporting and photography, and the satisfaction of helping preserve local news for Brownsville and the surrounding area.

Administrative Volunteer Duties
Help keep The Brownsville Times running smoothly behind the scenes! Administrative volunteers play a vital role in our success by taking on tasks such as:
Signing up new subscribers and helping manage our subscription list
Assisting with bookkeeping and tracking financial records
Selling advertising space to local businesses
Researching and writing grants to support our mission
Supporting fundraising activities and campaigns
Manning the office desk (just a three-hour shift once a month)
